French Cafe
Year 3 and 4 attended and helped organise a French cafe. Our French Club pupils took on the role of waiters and asked us what we would like in French. We then used our French knowledge and skills to order our food. This was an excellent opportunity to practise our speaking and listening skills and apply our knowledge of our Food Glorious Food and Going Shopping topic.
At Valley View we are always promoting positive friendships and know that everyone in our school community is important and special. In order to celebrate all of the wonderful work we do everyday we were invited to attend the annual Friends Against Bullying (Fab) Awards. This event was organised by the Young People’s Parliament and celebrated the work of a small selection of schools in South Tyneside. Our school was awarded a main award in recognition of our ongoing work to encourage positive relationships. It filled us with pride to watch some of our fabulous Year 5 children stand up on stage and present to an unknown audience. They did an AMAZING job showcasing our wonderful work. As part of our presentation we shared all the inspiring work that was completed in anti-bullying week, this included installing a buddy bench.
We visited St Peter’s Church as part of our Christianity topic in RE to help us to recognise the characteristics of Christian worship. We discovered the meaning of the colours used in some Christian denominations.
We compared similarities and differences in worship and symbols from different churches.
Thank you so much to our adults who came to join us for our Reading Café today. It was lovely to share activities that you can do at home and spend time together reading!
We can’t wait for the next one already!
Another fantastic Reading Cafe this morning with lots of activities linked to reading you can do with your child at home. Thank you so much to everyone who came! We hope you found it useful and enjoy doing some of these activities at home!
Y3 were Rainforest Explorers at Sunderland Winter Gardens today. We learned all about the layers of the rainforest and what lives in each layer. We looked at plants in the winter gardens and seeds and fruits. We were amazed at the size of the ‘small’ banana leaf!
