Early Years Superhero’s

1st October 2024C Henderson

Our topic in EYFS at the moment is ‘Super Duper You!’

This week, we are focusing on all of the things that make us special, recognising this may be different to our friends.
We couldn’t believe that a real superhero came to see us to show us our new ‘Superhero Station’  ‍♂️

The children loved spotting a superhero on our CCTV. They have been so engaged in their new role play area: writing secret messages for their superhero friends, making their own superhero masks and using positive words of affirmation in the mirror to say what is special about themselves

Early Years Explorations!

27th March 2024C Henderson
Over the last few weeks, EYFS have been taking part in an exploration session within their local community.
This time, we visited our local library. The children had some stories shared with them from the library staff, before getting the chance to explore the library and stories
They each used their very own library card to borrow a story from the library to enjoy at home
They all had a wonderful time getting lost in a story

Healthy Choices

22nd October 2023C Henderson

This week, the children in nursery and reception had a visit from the school nurses. They shared stories and activities to help them consider how to keep themselves healthy.

They talked about how important it is to look after their teeth by brushing them twice a day and making healthy choices with food and drink. 🦷

They also learnt a song to sing when washing their hands, to make sure to get rid of all of those nasty germs! 🦠

Our children were engaged and respectful, and they knew lots of ways to keep themselves healthy! They all received two certificates for their achievements! 💖

Harvest Festival

18th October 2023C Henderson

Nursery had a very special visitor this week… Reverend Jason from St Peter’s Church.

He came to share the importance of the festival ‘Harvest’ within the Christian religion, and helped the children to think about how they celebrate people within their own communities. The children shared the things they are thankful for, and how they let others know they are thankful for them and their help.

Following on from our topic, Super Duper Us, they also talked about the ways in which they are special and how they help others.

The children were very respectful, and shared lots of beautiful ideas. Thank you, Reverend Jason! 💖🌟

Nursery Stay and Play

17th April 2023C Henderson

This half term, nursery had a wonderful outdoor stay and play with all of their special adults. We shared a story all about the lifecycle of a caterpillar, before exploring some of our outdoor learning and finishing off with our favourite disco dudes! 🐛 A huge thank you to all of our parents/carers for their continued support 🥰💕

Forest School

16th November 2022C Henderson
We have been exploring hedgehogs in Forest School this term. We have discovered that hedgehogs are nocturnal and why they have spikes on their back. In our first session, we enjoyed using natural materials to create our own hedgehog sculptures. We are looking forward to finding out how we can help to care for these wonderful animals.

Diwali – The Festival of Lights

16th November 2022C Henderson

This week, EYFS explored the Hindu festival Diwali – the Festival of Lights. We discovered why the celebration is important to Hindu’s, how they prepare for the festival and what you might see during Diwali. We found out that they spring clean their homes in preparation, they exchange gifts and share family meals, they watch firework displays and they light up their homes to invite the Goddess Lakshmi. We enjoyed creating our own diva lamps that we decorated with our special adults at home.

EYFS Remembrance Day

16th November 2022C Henderson
EYFS were very proud to have a special visitor this week. We have been learning all about Remembrance Day and its importance, and we had lots of questions we wanted to ask a soldier if we ever met one. We were very excited to meet Anthony, who answered all of our questions including why we wear poppies and why he has special medals. It was wonderful to put all of our learning into a real life context. We paid our respect to soldiers like Anthony, and all of their families, by completing a 2 minute silence on Friday 11th November.

Early Years Explorers

21st October 2022C Henderson
Throughout the year, EYFS will be taking part in three ‘Exploration Sessions’ to support our understanding of the world around us and our local community. We will be supporting our knowledge of our local area with first hand experiences, noticing the features of our environment as we go.
This autumn term, our first Exploration Session was called ‘The Journey to Forest School’. We were very excited to go on our first adventure and explore our school grounds! We travelled through the red door, walked next to our outdoor area, over the big bridge, through the wild willow den, around the statue, across the path and we marched past the bushes to arrive at the huge gate!
Reception used their knowledge of their journey to Forest School to create their own maps of our immediate area.
