Year 2 have had an exciting half term so far!
We have looked the work of Jackson Pollock and then created our own artwork in his style. We needed to mix colours and decide whether we wanted to blow, splat or drizzle the paint to create our paintings.
In literacy, we are reading the story of ‘The Little Red Hen’. We visited Hedworthfield Primary School to visit their hens. We planted corn together, mucked out the cages and made food for them.
Today our school council welcomed Jarrow MP Kate Osborne to Valley View.
Ms Osborne enjoyed a tour of the school before entering into a challenging question and answer session with the School Council.
The children did lots of research to prepare for the meeting. They asked about the Women and Equalities Committee, what they could do about climate change, how they could get more money for fun equipment in school and if Kate Osborne MP had ever met Boris Johnson !
The Student Council made a great impression Kate Osborne commended them all praising the excellent selection process the school used to elect school councillors.
We look forward to another meeting soon!
We made lovley community links with Calf Close residential home last year when pupils from our choir visited the residents to sing Christmas songs.
This year the children participated in the Hearts for Home project. Each child designed a heart with a personal message of kindness or Seasons greeting!
Today members of our school council, delivered the hearts to our friends and wished them a Happy Christmas!

Our newly elected school council from Valley View and Hedworthfield were welcomed by the Deputy Mayor for a tour of the Town Hall in South Shields this week.

It was a great visit, our school council were amazing ambassadors for our schools.
Thank you so much to the Town Hall staff, Deputy Mayor and Councillors who made us feel so welcome.
Year 2 from Valley View and Hedworthfield and the Additional Resource Base 1 enjoyed a ‘Great Fire of London’ day. They baked bread in the Pudding Lane Bakery, build Tudor houses, drew London fire landscapes with pastels, sang songs, toasted marshmallows in our fire pit. They then watched as the Tudor houses were set alight to act out the burning city.
