Last week, Nursery enjoyed learning all about the Harvest Festival. We looked at the story of bread, and we were shocked to find some flour had been left for us from Farmer Phil! We decided it was a great idea to make our very own bread, We loved looking at the changing texture as we made the dough, and we learnt how to knead. We couldn’t resist trying our bread once it had been baked, and sharing it with others.
Year 5 and Year 6 have been focusing on Place Value in Maths so far this term. We have investigated numbers with up to 7-digits and have recapped rounding numbers to the nearest 10/100/1,000 and 10,000.
We have investigated negative numbers and their place on the number line and explored using them in context while researching and comparing average temperatures.
We have spent time ordering and comparing numbers and are ready to use our Place Value knowledge as we move onto Addition and Subtraction next week.
In PSHE Year 5 have been learning to work collaboratively. As part of this the children were set the challenge to work as a team to create the tallest tower possible (which was strong enough to balance one of Coco’s toys on the top).
The children demonstrated the ability to work beautifully as part of a team and thoroughly enjoyed this challenge.
We have loved reading the Bear Hunt Story in our Early Years setting. It is one of our five key texts this term and we adore it!
The children have enjoyed reciting the repetitive vocabulary and joining in with the corresponding actions. We have had fun recreating the bear hunt trail in our outdoor area! We waded through the long wavy grass, squelched through the thick oozy mud, splashed through the deep cold river and stumbled tripped through the big dark forest.
We have also enjoyed acting out the bear hunt story using the small world story props as well as sequencing key elements of the story. Some of the language the children have used has been incredible and we are very proud of them!
In Year 1 we have been learning about why the church is a special place to Christians.
The children were very lucky to be invited to attend a special service at our local Church, St Peters.
We also had a wonderful tour, looking closely at the features in the church, learning lots of new facts along the way!
We received a very warm welcome and enjoyed our time in church!
Year 2 have had an exciting half term so far!
We have looked the work of Jackson Pollock and then created our own artwork in his style. We needed to mix colours and decide whether we wanted to blow, splat or drizzle the paint to create our paintings.
In literacy, we are reading the story of ‘The Little Red Hen’. We visited Hedworthfield Primary School to visit their hens. We planted corn together, mucked out the cages and made food for them.

The sessions are aimed at those parents/carers of children and young people who have experienced difficulties with their mental/emotional health and who may have accessed services either now, or in the past, giving parents/carers a chance to meet and develop their understanding on some of the services South Tyneside has to offer.
