Year 3 visited the Great North Museum, Newcastle to attend a workshop about Ancient Egypt to start our history topic. They looked at artefacts from Ancient Egypt and matched them to labels and discussed which jobs were important and why? They discovered how mummification was carried out and saw a real mummified person. They liked exploring the exhibits in the museum and reading all about them.
Today Year 3 school councillors attended the Town Hall to learn about democracy.
The children took part in a fictiicious election to appoint a new leader for Stary Land!
During this process the children discussed the qualities a good leader should have, they sat in the council chamber to listen to speeches from the prospective candidates then took part in a ballot.
The children were amazing ambassadors for our school, they thoroughly enjoyed their experience and learned lots about democracy!
At Farm School we have learned many skills that farmers have used on the land and how farming has changed from the past.
We have talked about where our food comes from and how it is processed or how it is exported and imported around the world.
We planted peas and looked at what the animals eat. Grinding wheat into flour was hard work! Using tools safely, we made the paths safe at Jarrow Hall.
We looked after the animals, we groomed the goats and took them for a walk and we also prepared food to feed the sheep. Clothes were made using weaving in the past. We practiced weaving and also made felt.
Year 5 working hard exploring area and perimeter.
How many rectilinear shapes can you make with an area of 6cm2?
Maths – how many rectilinear shapes can you make with a perimeter of 12?
The Y3 children applied their drawing skills using pastels & charcoal to create cave paintings. They found out how and why they were used in the Stone Age era.
In PSHE Y3 worked alongside Claire from ‘Relax Kids’ to find out how to recognise and manage different emotions, we loved playing games and meditating too.
