Week beginning Monday 13th July

To our wonderful Year 1 Class of 2019-20. What can we say? Year 1 is a very important school year when children learn and grow a lot and very quickly. Although year 1 has been very different for you this year, you have still done just that. We at school have noticed how much you have grown- when you popped in to school and in your pictures. We have noticed how hard working and resilient you have become through your home learning. We have noticed that your ICT skills are better than ours! We have noticed your pride and enthusiasm to take part in our learning activities, competitions and cheerful challenges. We have noticed how loving and close your families have been throughout lock down. We have noticed that our school community can support each other through tough times and be each other’s lights in the darkness.
We have noticed you. Everyone of you. And we know you can achieve great things in the future! Good luck boys and girls. Have a wonderful, well deserved Summer holiday after your final week of home learning which is… SPORTS WEEK! We will see your happy smiling faces again in September when you will be Year 2!

Dear Year 1 Parents,
Thank you for your continued support and dedication to home learning throughout this long period away from school. It has been wonderful to keep in touch online and via telephone with the children and yourselves.
Now that some children are attending school from our year group, I will be posting lessons for the week each weekend. Lessons are still organised into days and online platforms such as IXL will still be used. You will now have more flexibility and can choose which days that you complete the activities.
This week, I will be sending information to you via email about a class video call so that the children can see each other and their teachers. I will also send information about a new website, Class DOJO, with which we can be in contact daily about your children’s work and well being.
Thank you again for your enthusiasm and commitment to home learning. I am so proud of our Year 1 families. Please contact school if you have any questions or need support.

Monday 4th May

Hello Year 1. I hope you had a wonderful weekend.
Today is May the fourth which is also known as Star Wars Day. I know some of the children in our class like Star Wars. Maybe you could dress up or play with a star wars toy today? You could imagine you’re a Jedi and make a light sabre.
This week in Maths, I would like you to explore and learn about shapes. There are lots of online activities about shape on IXL and Mathletics for you to work through each day but I have also found some fun ideas for you to try at home.
- Do a shape hunt around your house
- Chalk shapes on the ground
- Make a shape collage or picture
- Use pencils, lolly sticks or straws to create different shapes

I also have a number work activity for you to try each day. There will be 3 questions each day which should take you around 5 minutes.
Here is your first set of questions.

Literacy:
As well as your IXL spelling and grammar activities, we have a new topic to study in English.
It is ‘Stories from Other Cultures’. This means we will be reading and hearing stories from different countries where life is very different from life in our country.
Today I would like you to explore the clues in the pictures below. Answer these questions.
What can you see?

What do you think the weather is like?
Would you like to go there?

You can record your experiments in photographs, pictures or writing if you would like to show me.
I hope you have fun!
Missing you all very much,

Dear Parents,
Reading, Mathletics, IXL, TTRockstars and Purple Mash activities can still be accessed at any time if you want to do these more practical activities another time. Online programmes all have the opportunity for children to work through additional or alternative activities as well as what I set for them. Remember all activities are ideas to help with learning at home but not compulsory. The online learning happening in our class is wonderful and I am so proud of the children. I also know it is a lot of work for families supporting the learning at home. I hope you are all well and enjoying some time at home with your families in the sunshine if you can. Miss Atthey, Miss Melia and I miss having the children in school and look forward to seeing them again soon. Sending lots of smiles and support at this very challenging time.
