Remote education provision: information for parents
This information is intended to provide clarity and transparency to pupils and parents or carers about what to expect from remote education where national or local restrictions require entire cohorts (or bubbles) to remain at home or where there is a need to provide home learning for a child.
For details of what to expect where individual pupils are self-isolating, please see the final section of this page.
The remote curriculum: what is taught to pupils at home
A pupil’s first day or two of being educated remotely might look different from our standard approach, while we take all necessary actions to prepare for a longer period of remote teaching.
What should my child expect from immediate remote education in the first day or two of pupils being sent home?
We have designed our remote education offer around the age and ability of pupils. We have looked at how our youngest children will be best supported at home and how this can be more flexibly delivered and have built this up so our older and most independent children access remote education independently.
On day one of any notified closure the children will have homework activities set via class dojo for the period of time remaining of that day. This will vary depending on the time of the bubble closure. If a bubble closes late afternoon the homework tasks may be for the following day.
On day 2 all pupils will have a live zoom for registration and direct teaching. This will be communicated clearly via class dojo, the school website and facebook.
Following the first few days of remote education, will my child be taught broadly the same curriculum as they would if they were in school?
Yes, your child will be taught the full curriculum and will have access to all lessons. We know from previous lockdowns that some of the practical aspects of the curriculum are more difficult to teach from home where resources may not be available (sculpture in Art for example) so some subjects will be adapted. Don’t worry. Any missed learning will be recovered once children return to school. We have organised our curriculum so subjects are taught together which allows us to clearly identify where the gaps are and easily recover any units of work on the return to the classroom.
Remote teaching and study time each day
How long can I expect work set by the school to take my child each day?
We expect that remote education (including remote teaching and independent work) will take pupils broadly the following number of hours each day:
Key Stage 1 | EYFS Nursery 2 hours per day
EYFS Reception 3 hours per day Years 1 and 2 – minimum of 3 hours per day |
Key Stage 2 | KS2 Minimum of 4 hours per day |
Accessing remote education
How will my child access any online remote education you are providing?
How you child will access remote education will depend on their year group. Please see the table below.
EYFS- Remote learning will be shared via dojo and on the school website. This will comprise some live zoom teaching, recorded videos to watch with your child and planned learning activities. These will be set out on a presentation with a side to follow each day with links to their learning. | KS1 & Y3 -Remote learning will be shared via dojo and on the school website. This will comprise some live zoom teaching which will last for a whole class teaching session, recorded videos for your child to watch and planned learning activities. These will be set out on a presentation with a side to follow each day with links to their learning. | KS2-Remote learning will be shared via class dojo and on the school website. Children will be expected to attend live zoom lessons throughout the day and undertake activities set on on google classroom. There may be some video tutorials for certain subjects like PE. Again these will be shared via class dojo and accessed through google classroom links. |
IF YOUR CHILD DOES NOT HAVE ACCESS TO A LAPTOP OR TABLET OR INTERNET PLEASE CALL THE SCHOOL OFFICE SO WE CAN SUPPORT YOUR CHILD TO HAVE THE REQUIRED RESOUCRES
If my child does not have digital or online access at home, how will you support them to access remote education?
We recognise that some pupils may not have suitable online access at home. We take the following approaches to support those pupils to access remote education:
We are able to provide laptops and chromebooks which will all support our remote education offer.
However, where a child may struggle to access this work or the devices/ internet can not be quickly resolved a paper pack will be provided.
How will my child be taught remotely?
A slideshow and timetable will be provided at the start of each week (or by day two if a closure occurs mid week)
We use a combination of the following approaches to teach pupils remotely. A typical day will be:

Engagement and feedback
What are your expectations for my child’s engagement and the support that we as parents and carers should provide at home?
EYFS- Children will need support to access the learning. Where possible recorded teaching session will be provided to allow the greatest possible flexibility. There will be short tasks set which children will need support to access. | KS1 & Y3 – Children will need some support to organise their learning and to set up zooms. We aim to provide as much independent learning as possible but younger children may need support. | KS2- Children may need an adult to check they understand how to access their learning. The learning should be independent throughout the day. |
How will you check whether my child is engaging with their work and how will I be informed if there are concerns?
Children’s attendance will be recorded and tracked during live zooms.
The activities set include activities which automatically log a child’s learning and their progress. For KS2 all work will be submitted via google classroom.
There may be some work which needs to be photographed and submitted.
How will you assess my child’s work and progress?
Feedback can take many forms and may not always mean extensive written comments for individual children. For example, whole-class feedback or quizzes marked automatically via digital platforms are also valid and effective methods, amongst many others. Our approach to feeding back on pupil work is as follows:
Some of the online programmes will automatically assess a child’s progress and set the next work to meet the needs of the child.
Some feedback for submitted work will be provided on dojo for pupils in EYFS to Year 3
Class teachers for years 4, 5 and 6 have live feedback opportunities on google classroom.
The live zooms will provide verbal feedback for children.
Additional support for pupils with particular needs
How will you work with me to help my child who needs additional support from adults at home to access remote education?
We recognise that some pupils, for example some pupils with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), may not be able to access remote education without support from adults at home. We acknowledge the difficulties this may place on families, and we will work with parents and carers to support those pupils in the following ways:
Work will be appropriately differentiated for children. This includes phonics sessions.
We will work closely with parents and carers to respond to individual needs where pupils have additional needs.
Where a send pupil accesses 1:1 support and are in need of additional guidance work will be differentiated. Support staff and teachers can work together to ensure learning is pitched at their level. This could include PPP target work, additional live zooms for target phonics/ number etc.
Remote education for self-isolating pupils
Where individual pupils need to self-isolate but the majority of their peer group remains in school, how remote education is provided will likely differ from the approach for whole groups. This is due to the challenges of teaching pupils both at home and in school.
If my child is not in school because they are self-isolating, how will their remote education differ from the approaches described above?
EYFS- Where a child in EYFS is isolating recorded videos will be sent with a paper pack to support their learning. | KS1 & Y3 – There will be an option to zoom into lessons with learning accessed via IXL for english and maths skills, purple mash and national oak academy will be used for foundation subjects where appropriate and where meets the planned curriculum. A paper pack will also be provided to support the learning. | KS2- There will be an option to zoom into lessons with learning accessed via IXL for english and maths skills, purple mash and national oak academy will be used for foundation subjects where appropriate and where meets the planned curriculum. A paper pack will also be provided to support the learning. |
